Wikipedian in Residence at the Auckland War Memorial Museum

We are excited to announce that Auckland War Memorial Museum’s funding application for a 12-month Wikipedian in Residence (WiR) project has been granted by Wikimedia Aotearoa New Zealand.  This role will continue the successful initiatives of the previous WiR and the 2023-2024 Summer Studentship programme.

The focus of this WiR will be community engagement across Auckland, seeking collaborations with like-minded institutions and organisations. Working with the Wikimedia Aotearoa New Zealand (WANZ) Committee, and members of our national editing community, the WiR will oversee events aimed at increasing and broadening our pool of editors. They will actively integrate Museum research and openly licensed content into relevant Wikipedia pages focused on Auckland and New Zealand.

Additionally, the WiR will mentor a new group of interns during the Summer Student programme, expanding on last year’s successful efforts. They will also provide support to Museum staff engaged in Wiki-related projects. Lots more information to come.
